LG Innotek will launch in 2018 in the production of flexible printed circuits that could equip the iPhone next year.
This year, only a special model of the iPhone, or iPhone 8 , should offer a flexible AMOLED display, although retaining a flat screen, far from the stretched displays on the Galaxy S8 / S8 + and soon Galaxy Note 8 from Samsung.
As of next year, the proportion of iPhone equipped with an OLED display will increase and the design could take advantage of the flexibility of the AMOLED display provided by Samsung Display to extend to the edges.
To achieve this, flexible printed circuits will be required to withstand the deformations of a flexible display.
LG Innotek , a subsidiary of LG Electronics, is expected to be able to produce the required PCBs by 2018, potentially opening up a component supplier of future iPhone 9 components alongside Samsung Electro-Mechanics, according to Korea Economic Daily .
The iPhone 9 of 2018 could be offered in two sizes of OLED screen: 5.28 or 6.46 inches , still according to the Korean media, which should generate large orders at Samsung Display, waiting for other suppliers Are able to produce quality and volume OLED displays.
