Nokia 8: what we know about the first Android flagship of NOKIA
HMD is currently preparing its first Android flagship for the Nokia brand. This highly anticipated phone should compete with the Google Pixel range .
First known as Nokia 9 in some rumors, the next Nokia smartphone and the first flagship should finally be called Nokia 8. This smartphone will continue to follow the codes of the Finnish brand since its return to the mobile market at the beginning of Year, but will offer a first-rate technical data sheet.
A technical sheet at the level of the competition
We begin this round of information about the Nokia 8 by its data sheet, which should allow it to differentiate clearly from other Nokia phones. Until now, the Finnish devices were entry or midrange smartphones, here it will not be the case.
Here is the supposed technical sheet of this phone:
- IPS screen 5.3 inches WQHD (2560 x 1440 pixels)
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Chip
- 4 GB of RAM
- 64 GB storage
- Dual 13 megapixel camera (including a monochrome)
- Front fingerprint reader
- USB Type-C port compatible with Quick Charge 3.0
- Port jack
- Android 7.1 Nougat
HMD would therefore use the best chip currently available at Qualcomm for this phone, which should therefore offer very good performance, but also compatibility with the latest Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 4G networks.
Note that unlike many competitors this year, the screen of the Nokia 8 will not be without borders, but rather classic, although it will probably be of very good quality.
Android "pure", updated and secure
The Nokia 8 operating system could be its true strength, and should allow it to differentiate itself from the competition. This is one of the promises of HMD, the Nokia 8 will integrate a "pure" version of Android, ie without customization of the manufacturer.
This will allow Nokia to update its phone more easily with the latest version of Android, and the latest security patch. The manufacturer had illustrated itself by delivering the update of July before Google .
For fans of Android as designed by Google, the Nokia 8 could be a good alternative to Google Pixel.
The camera will have to prove its worth
The Nokia 8 will be the first smartphone of the brand to integrate a dual camera. He will also be the first to benefit from the know-how of Carl Zeiss , the optics specialist who signed an agreement with HMD .
When we took a hand in preview, the camera had rather disappointed us, but it was a prototype. Anyway, a flagship must have a good camera in 2017, and HMD will be awaited at the turn on this subject.
Availability and price: Nokia could hit hard
According to the latest rumors , the Nokia 8 could exit July 31 in Europe at a price between 550 and 600 USD.
This price would allow it to be very competitive with the Samsung Galaxy S8 , LG G6 , Huawei P10 and especially Google Pixel that offers the same software interface. So it could be an accessible flagship for those wishing an up-to-date smartphone.
Faced with OnePlus , the Nokia 8 should benefit from a broad distribution channel in Europe through operators and online shops. So HMD could have put all the ingredients together to get the job done.
